Dna Based Techniques for the Identification of Forensically Important Flies (diptera): a Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
DNA based methods become important in the identification of insects when we don’t have complete sample for identification and the available sample is either broken or fragmented and unable to provide complete information necessary for the identification. We have number of DNA based techniques which can be used for the identification of insect’s samples. We are therefore presenting here the review of various DNA based techniques commonly used in the species identification.

Identification of the forensically important flies (Diptera: Muscidae) based on cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene in China
Accurate species identification is a crucial step in forensic entomology, as the insect collected on a corpse can provide useful information for estimation of postmortem interval (PMI). However, morphological distinction may on occasion be impossible to the adult flies and nymphs of the same genus. DNA-based method can be used as a supplemental means of morphological method. In this study, 31 f...
متن کاملDNA barcoding identifies all immature life stages of a forensically important flesh fly (Diptera: Sarcophagidae).
Carrion-breeding insects, such as flesh flies (Diptera: Sarcophagidae), can be used as evidence in forensic investigations. Despite their considerable forensic potential, their use has been limited because morphological species identification, at any life stage, is very challenging. This study investigated whether DNA could be extracted and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) barcode sequences o...
متن کاملIdentification of forensically important sarcophagidae (Diptera) by DNA- based method coupled with morphological characteristics
The Sarcophagidae, besides the Calliphoridae, are considered as forensically important insects for investigating postmortem interval (PMI), however, often be neglected. Using decomposing pig bodies with various postmortem intervals, we identified 47 sarcophagid flies from hundreds of fly specimens collected at several Taiwan areas. Species diversity of the sarcophagid flies was further studied ...
متن کاملDNA-barcoding of forensically important blow flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae) in the Caribbean Region
Correct identification of forensically important insects, such as flies in the family Calliphoridae, is a crucial step for them to be used as evidence in legal investigations. Traditional identification based on morphology has been effective, but has some limitations when it comes to identifying immature stages of certain species. DNA-barcoding, using COI, has demonstrated potential for rapid a...
متن کاملUtility of GenBank and the Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD) for the identification of forensically important Diptera from Belgium and France
Fly larvae living on dead corpses can be used to estimate post-mortem intervals. The identification of these flies is decisive in forensic casework and can be facilitated by using DNA barcodes provided that a representative and comprehensive reference library of DNA barcodes is available. We constructed a local (Belgium and France) reference library of 85 sequences of the COI DNA barcode fragme...
